Online voting now closes 8 p.m. Sunday, October 25

Your letter has arrived. You can vote online until Sunday night.

You were one of the Ward 6 households caught up in the City’s mailing problem. Your voter information letter is arriving now, and the City has extended internet voting because of it — the close moved from Friday, October 23 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. That is two extra days.

What to do

Three steps, and the fallbacks

01

Step 1 — open the letter

Your registration number is printed on it

The voter information letter carries your Voter Registration Number and a link to the online voting site. Open the envelope and check the name on the letter is yours. If it is addressed to someone who no longer lives at your address, please write “Return to Sender” on the envelope, put it back in your mailbox, and let the City know so it can be reissued to the right person.

02

Step 2 — get your code

Register with an email address or mobile number

Use the link in the letter to register for internet voting. You will be asked for an email address or a mobile number, and your voting code is sent there — that two-step check is what makes the ballot secret. Register by 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. Vote any time up to 8 p.m. that night.

03

Step 3 — if online voting does not work for you

You do not need a letter to vote in person

One piece of ID showing your name and a Burlington address is enough — a cancelled personalized cheque, an insurance policy or statement, an Ontario driver’s licence, or a document on the City’s accepted list. Photo ID is not required. Election day is Monday, October 26, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at any of the four Ward 6 locations. If you cannot get to a poll at all, you can appoint a proxy to vote for you: complete the Appointment for Voting Proxy form and have it certified at City Hall, 426 Brant St., up to 4:30 p.m. on election day.
